We can get permission? I don’t think that’s what they meant…
Aside from the glaring spelling error in the translation of the 5th Amendment, I have a minor problem with this interpretation of the Bill of Rights.
Take a look at the 2nd Amendment translation:
We can get permission to own weapons to protect ourselves.
Everything I could say about this has already been said by the blogger to whom I linked at the top of this post, but here’s the original 2nd Amendment:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Nowhere in that Amendment does it say anything about permission. And regardless of your stance on this issue, the Constitution is a list of “permissions” that We the People give the government, not the other way around.
