Newt Gingrich sent out a Ron Paul-esque email this morning. The title:

Audit the Federal Reserve.

As a guy who’s written dozens of campaign emails, the goal is — first and foremost — to get people to open the email. Barack Obama did a spectacular job a few weeks ago with an email titled “Tap.” I couldn’t not open it.

What was several years ago a “fringe idea” by Texas Congressman (and Presidential candidate) Ron Paul is now fairly mainstream. Paul’s “Audit the Fed” legislation has received wide bipartisan support. Its latest incarnation has some 157 cosponsors, ranging from John Conyers (liberal Democrat) to Michele Bachmann (conservative Republican) to all manner of Members in between.
