RNC’s Steele Has Spine
Briefly, RNC Chairman Michael Steele vowed today to support Republican primary challengers to the U.S. Senators who voted for President Obama’s stimulus (read as: spending) bill. Those Senators (for those of you who don’t know) are Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter, and Maine Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins.
Steele first revealed he might oppose Sens. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.), Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) when he was asked last week by Fox News host Neil Cavuto if he is considering supporting primary challengers against the three wayward Republicans. “Oh, yes, I’m always open to everything, baby, absolutely,” Steele responded.
Snowe told Roll Call that she was so angry over the remarks that she approached Steele to ask: “You didn’t really mean that, did you?”
Amen. One thing totalitarian regimes get right is that they routinely purify the flock.

Steele: GOP not dead
Former Maryland Lieutenant Governor and prominent black Republican Michael Steele penned a column addressing concerns that the Grand Old Party was dead. He noted a slight shift in preference (about 4%) of Democrats over Republicans in the last two election cycles as miniscule.
Steele did outline several “strategic and tactical improvements” that Republicans must make:
