GovWatch ‘10: GQ Drew… for Governor?
There’s been some talk recently about Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson’s possible entry into the 2010 gubernatorial race. In an e-mail, Johnson notes:
There is a real concern about the lack of a voice for limited, accountable, responsible government going into the 2010 gubernatorial election. Tennesseans – like me – who see government as the problem, not the solution, have no one to represent us.
As a result, folks who think taxes are too high, government spending is out of control, and too many of the important decisions that impact our lives are made in smoke-filled back rooms are searching for a candidate.
In the last few weeks, I’ve been contacted by dozens, if not hundreds, of Tennesseans who want me to champion the ideas of freedom and the principles of limited government as a candidate, and as governor. The experience has been both flattering and humbling.
It’s never been my goal to be governor. It’s my goal to protect and advance liberty as successfully as possible. Right now, I do that as president of the Tennessee Center for Policy Research. If, at some point, I determine that I could be a more effective spokesman for freedom as governor, I would be letting down my cause not to consider it.
I plan on following this issue closely and hope to have more concrete details at a later date.
