Election Commission news, Larry Brinton-style
You may remember I briefly mentioned some troubles with local election commissions and Republican legislators getting cold feet about assuming Republican majorities at the county level…
I have spoken with several sources over the past few days in order to hammer out the details to this story, but no one was willing to go on the record, so to speak. And since I do attempt to exercise some journalistic integrity on this site, I want to preface this with *DISCLAIMER* as of this posting, I cannot confirm with named sources the following information. In the courtroom this would be hearsay, but I would suggest that the people with whom I have spoken are abundantly qualified to address this issue.
“Word on the street” is that there has been a never-before-seen power grab at the county election commission level. People have come out of the woodwork in an attempt to get the one available Republican election commission seat in all 95 counties. Davidson, Bedford, and Rutherford counties – just to name a few – have all experienced some sort of political disagreement – including, but not limited to namecalling and threats.
This has caused a great amount of tension amongst Republican lawmakers, who have been pressured into appointing friends and contributors, to the point of them not being compelled to act quickly on this issue.
That’s the “word on the street.”
