Of Big Journalism, Breitbart says:

“Our goal at Big Journalism is to hold the mainstream media’s feet to the fire. There are a lot of stories that they simply don’t cover, either because it doesn’t fit their world view, or because they’re literally innocent of any knowledge that the story even exists, or because they are a dying organization, short-staffed, and thus can’t cover stuff like they did before.”

Big Journalism’s Editor in Chief is the very talented Dana Loesch, who’s quite the conservative activist in the St. Louis area.

For those not familiar with Big Journalism, it’s one of four of Breitbart’s “Big” sites: Big Hollywood, Big Government, Big Journalism, and Big Peace.

I’ve written news and commentary for over nine years now, and I’m honored to join the growing family of “Big” contributors to help expose liberal media bias.

I am humbled and honored to be able to contribute to Big Journalism.

I have been gone for nearly two years. In June 2009, I packed my belongings and headed to Washington from Murfreesboro, Tennessee. In the weeks leading up to the big move, I faced a number of uncertainties. I had grown up more or less at home, even through college. I never stayed more than a few miles from home for any extended period, much less moved out of my home state altogether for uncharted territory.

I only ever visited D.C. once before moving — back in 2006, I think, with a good friend during an early Spring Break. It was cold, windy. I didn’t like it. In fact, in the months preceding the big move, I said I would never in a million years move to D.C. Haha. How that changed quickly.

I didn’t want to be in the Swamp, part of the “problem.” I’m the ultimate outsider, right? A Republican from Rutherford County with no party to call my own. Bad elements within the local party forced me to resign my leadership role with the Young Republicans. Funny how people you trust one moment can stab you in the back the next. I learned politics the hard way. Betrayal stings. And it still stings today. And I will never forget.

And some might say I’m still “wet behind the ears.” I admit I still cling to my youthful ideals. But some back home have said I’ve sold out to moderation. I assure you I have not. Pragmatism, however, is quite a new thing for me. You win some, you lose some. Maximize your winnings, while minimizing the losses.

I still follow politics in Tennessee. Morbid curiosity, I guess. The Rutherford County GOP should be dissolved. I could write volumes on that issue, but I’ll move on.

Kerry Roberts is poised to be the next State Senator from Robertson and Sumner Counties. His hard work will pay off, I’m sure. He’s a solid conservative, and I have supported him since he mounted a never-gonna-win campaign for Congress. He’s replacing Diane Black, who now serves in Congress.

But yes, I’m still engaged. Last night I spoke at length with a friend of mine in the General Assembly, and this morning I got updates concerning a few issues I’ve been following in Nashville.

I can honestly say that I left Tennessee with few Republican friends. I could count them on one hand, maybe. But since I left, I’ve been working diligently to restore acquaintances and friendships. I am still fairly cautious when it comes to trusting politicians, having been burned in the past.

And I’ve learned so much here. I managed a tough campaign in Maryland and learned a lot. I worked with the best consultants in the business, and worked for a principled conservative. I learned the art of political fundraising, dealing with the media, and handling crises. It was a pleasure to work with such a principled elected official. And he’s now the Chairman of the MDGOP.

It’s a tough world for Republicans in Maryland, and working in the Old Line State is not something I’ll soon forget.

And now I write. Professionally. I’ve turned two passions – politics and writing – into a salary. I really love what I’m doing.

I have also begun reaching out as an alumnus of MTSU to recent and soon-to-be grads who want to get their foot in the door inside the Beltway. I want to provide young conservatives and libertarians with opportunities I was not afforded by the Alumni Association when I was at MTSU.

But I miss Tennessee politics. While I am 100% focused on my goals here, I will remain involved to the extent that I can. I still very much care about the Volunteer State.

This was rambly. I’m planning on blogging here more often, and I’ll work to streamline my thoughts. Until then, enjoy this. And don’t be afraid to comment. I know you’re reading.

Things have changed since I took the blog offline. I’ve changed jobs and locations, moving an hour outside the Beltway to work on a state campaign for a true conservative candidate in Maryland.

I stay connected with Tennessee politics, and I have watched with great interest a number of races at the local and state level in Tennessee, where I am from originally. Additionally, I am concerned about a number of races and issues at the national level.

So while I’m not sure where this is going, I hope to keep you entertained an informed. Thanks again for your readership.

As an addendum, I hope these posts are longer than my tweets. In fact, I hope to expound upon many of my tweets here.
