Allegations of racial insensitivity taint Dems this week
For those of you joining this blog since my move from Murfreesboro, TN to Arlington, VA – I find it necessary to make a point. I still get much of my political news from A. C. Kleinheider, who aggregates and occasionally comments on various issues on a local, state, and national level. I find him to be a decent and honest presenter of the news and an intelligent and insightful commentator.
That being said, I am somewhat disheartened by his failure to pick up several important news stories this week. Bias in media is not solely the angle reporters choose to present the news, but also which stories they choose to cover altogether. Were Kleinheider a shill for the Republican Party, as he is sometimes called, he most assuredly would have picked up on this story about a racist Democrat. Instead, he covered this non-story about a Democrat-turned-Bush supporter, who – according to folks on the left, made a subconciously racist statement.
I’ll start with the non-story(which, by the way, Kleinheider pulled from a leftist commentary site). Feisty Democrat Zell Miller, a staple of Georgia Democratic politics since the late 1950s, crossed over in 2004 to support the re-election of George W. Bush for President over then-Democratic nominee John Kerry. Miller gave an electrifying speech in support of President Bush, causing a backlash against him from Democrats nationally. He never once suggested he was a Republican, and – in fact – he referred on several occasions during his 2004 address to the RNC to the Democratic Party as “my party.”
In his recent speech to a conference of Republican legislators, Miller had this to say about President Obama, who has traveled globally since taking the Oath of Office:
“Our globe-trotting president needs to stop and take a break and quit gallivanting around,” Miller said, adding that White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel needs to put “Gorilla Glue” on his chair to keep him in the Oval Office.
Gorilla Glue, for those unfamiliar with the adhesive industry, is an exceedingly powerful multipurpose polyurethane adhesive. It has, in recent years, won several awards, including Popular Science Magazine’s “Best of What’s New – 2008″ for its super glue product.
It is with that in mind – that Gorilla Glue supercedes industry standards and is considered to be one of the best adhesive products on the market – that Zell suggests that Chief of Staff Emanuel should affix the President to his seat in the Oval Office. It’s a non-story. It’s such a non-story that I actually feel bad for writing at such length about it, 422 words into this blog post.
The real story this week was not Miller’s glue comment, but rather it was several entries into the Congressional Record by Senator Barbara in her capacity as Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee.
Boxer, a high priestess of the Extremist Environmental Church of Al Gore, refuted factual research with opinion this week, but not in just any old fashion. You can see the video here. Harry Alford, the CEO of the National Black Chamber of Commerce, presented a report by CRA International on the Economic Impact of the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009. CRA International is a non-partisan global consulting firm, and the National Black Chamber of Commerce is a diverse organization representing black business in America – both liberal and conservative. Its membership is as diverse as the businesses it represents.
Mr. Alford presents this study to Senator Boxer. Now, the study suggests that the ACESA will have a tremendous negative impact on black businesses, which completely diminishes the lie perpetuated by the Democrats that ACESA will have minimal negative economic impact. Furthermore, the Congressional Budget Office, a non-partisan arm of Congress that assesses the economic impact of legislation also suggested this week that ACESA would have an adverse effect on the economy.
Facts aside, the Dems are dead set on passing this terrible legislation.
Back to the story, though. Mr. Alford, who has worked with both Republicans and Democrats, presents this study to Senator Boxer’s Committee – and she has the nerve to enter several other documents into the record: two opinions/resolutions (not supported by any non-partisan study) of prominent black organizations (the NAACP and the 100 Black Men of Atlanta). Not that these resolutions were steeped in fact – as Mr. Alford’s study – but that these were statements issued by African American organizations, like that had some bearing on Alford’s study.
Boxer continues to condescend Mr. Alford throughout the rest of his testimony. Liberal racism is veiled under this condescending tone taken by Boxer and others. You can see liberal racism here, here, here, and here. The question here is, does Senator Boxer realize she’s racist?
Here’s another interview Mr. Alford did the day after his testimony:
